Job Purpose:

“A Handyman will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks around buildings, to keep them in good repair, such as fixing roofs, painting walls, or fitting doors and skirting boards etc.”

Key Responsibilities:

The general responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
1. To perform masonry work on external walls or steps, laying slabs, erecting fences, laying vinyl flooring, glazing and replacing glass
2. To install cabinets, countertops, flooring, and other finished surfaces in residential or commercial buildings
3. To install new electrical wiring for outlets, switches, and light fixtures
4. To repair leaks in roofs or walls, replace insulation, and repair or replace structural components such as joists or beams
5. To install carpet or other floor coverings such as hardwood or laminate
6. To install plumbing fixtures such as sinks, toilets, or faucets
7. To install security cameras and alarms as well as home automation systems such as thermostats or door locks
8. To install cabinets, shelving, countertops, flooring, and other finished surfaces in residential or commercial buildings
9. To install new tile flooring in kitchens, bathrooms, and other rooms in a home or business
10. To repair plumbing leaks and other plumbing issues such as clogs in pipes or broken water heaters
11. To perform checks on security and fire appliances.

Working Conditions:

The nature of the job includes working eight-hour shifts, though, longer hours are also common and mostly working outdoors, but some workers may work indoors, being exposed to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable. The job may include being exposed to very hot or very cold temperatures when working outdoors and, sometimes, exposed to contaminants, such as fumes from paints or sealers.

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

Knowledge/experience in Handyman type repairs including some or all of the following:
1. Plumbing
2. CHA
3. Electrical
4. HVAC
5. Repair
6. Painting
7. Flooring
8. Lighting/plumbing fixture repair and replacement
9. Site up clean
● Should be thorough and pay attention to detail
● Should have ability to use, repair and maintain machines and tools
● Should have knowledge of building and construction
● Should have the ability to work well with your hands
● Should have problem-solving skills
● Should have practical skills for repairing and maintaining equipment
● Should have good attention to detail and excellent customer service skills

Physical Abilities:

● Ability to stand for long periods of time
● Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. consistently
● Ability to be comfortable with use of ladders and scaffolding
● Ability to work in various positions, for example: crouching, kneeling, lying down, and access/work in low (40″) spaces

Qualification/ Experience:

The candidate should be at least 18 years of age, should at least have a high school degree, along with at least 3 years of on-site experience. Additionally, candidate must pass a background check.
